Tubular! On Aug. 5, Peter Mel, Martin Daily and Michele Turner were inducted into the Surfers’ Hall of Fame in Huntington Beach. They put their marks in cement in front of Huntington Surf and Sport across from the famed Huntington Beach Pier.

It was a special induction because it also was the 25th anniversary of the Surfers’ Hall of Fame in Surf City. “We want to take a moment to rededicate our commitment to the Surfers’Hall of Fame and to surfers and surfing at the epicenter of the Surfing World,” said Aaron Pai, founder of the Surfers’ Hall of Fame. “This year’s honorees have contributed so much to riding waves, and supporting our Surfing Community, and staving off hunger after a local surf session.”

Peter Mel placed first in the 1997 O’Neill Coldwater Classic, first in the Billabong Pico Alto Copa Burn and first in the 2013 Mavericks Invitational. In 2021, he won the 2021 Red Bull Big Wave ride of the year for a Mavericks giant.

Martin Daily is described as a legendary Surf Explorer, boat captain, surfer and diver who has discovered incredible waves all around the world and taken surfers on his boat to enjoy them. He also provided relief aid after the Tsunamis in Indonesia.

Everyone calls Michele Turner the Surf Mom of Main Street since she opened her Sugar Shack Cafe in 1967. According to the Hall of Fame’s bio, “The walls of the Shack tell the story of its history with photos of renowned surfers and hopefuls. The mother of surfers Timmy and Ryan Turner, Turner is also the grandmother of 11 and the godmother of countless surfers.”
